Entry Level position that performs routine technical work requiring application of standard engineering or scientific techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out tasks. Uses technical judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections of alternatives. Typical assignments are in the form of design, problem solving, and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of company assets. Work is periodically reviewed for proper application of professional judgment.

Accountabilities:
- Develops knowledge of current and new technology
- Provide field engineering assistance
- Provide project engineering assistance to engineers within time and budget constraints
- Provide technical support to others within DTE Energy
- Works under guidance of experienced professionals to recommend and implement timely solutions involving routine engineering, design, operation, and maintenance of company assets
- Assist in making recommendations based on analysis, trending of data, special tests, and investigations
- Identify and implement process improvement ideas
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree Chemical Engineering&lt;?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /&gt;
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer applications applicable to specific work field/discipline
- Awareness of industry codes and standards.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company.
- Demonstrates multi-tasking capabilities.
- Knowledge of Engineering, testing, design, operation, and maintenance of company assets.
- Understanding of the supply chain process.

THIS POSITION IS REPRESENTED BY LOCAL 223 BARGAINING UNIT, POWER
GENERATION BARGAINING UNIT.  

Installs, modifies adjusts, locates, troubleshoots faults or failures, and repairs electrical systems in the power plant such as: generators, motors , precipitator controls, interlock systems, switchgear, breakers and busses etc. Rebuilds, installs, inspects, adjusts, repairs, tests and or modifies circuit breakers, relays, AC-DC generators, motors, transmission and distributions busses power and control wiring, conduit, ignition systems, exciters, transformers, controllers, sensors, timing devices, disconnects, general lighting and communications systems etc.. Inspects, adjusts, repairs, removes and installs different types of valve, gate and damper actuators, including performing diagnostic testing and analysis.

Uses and maintains a variety of test equipment and tools, such as:
-    Electrical test equipment; PCs oscilloscopes, volt meters, ammeters, meggers, frequency controllers,etc.
-    New technology as necessary and available.
Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must have completed a Company recognized apprenticeship in the trade. Candidates must submit an application and proof of Journeyperson status to be considered. Journeyperson proof is in the form of either a Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship from a recognized Apprentice Program.
-OR -
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED and letters from employers which verify eight years or more hands-on experience in the classification. Journeyperson letters must be on company letterhead, dated, signed by human resources, list classification, dates served in the classification and what candidates did in the capacity.
- Must be able to train other maintenance personnel to perform in the lower skill levels of work.
- Must work shifts as assigned.

Job Description
THIS POSITION IS REPRESENTED BY LOCAL 223 BARGAINING UNIT, POWER GENERATION BARGAINING UNIT.  

Perform in the capacity of an operator and a journeyman. Under indirect and intermittent supervision, they will perform work which will require experience, classroom training and on the job training. Will operate and perform troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, installing, and modifying of all FGD plant equipment, including but not limited to environmental process control equipment systems, related equipment and systems building and properties. Expected to become fully qualified in the capacity of an operator and be a primary skilled journeyman in the Mechanical trade. Mechanical trades encompass skills and knowledge in the following disciplines, including but not limited to, pipefitter, welder, mechanic and iron worker.
Qualifications
-Must have completed a recognized apprenticeship in the trade of welder, pipefitter, mechanic, millwright, boilermaker or ironworker. Candidates must submit an application and proof of Journeyman status to be considered. Journeyman proof is in the form of either a Certificate of completion of Apprenticeship from a recognized apprentice program.
OR
-Must have a High School diploma or GED and letters from employers which eight years or more of hands-on experience in welder, pipefitter, mechanic, millwright, boilermaker, or ironworker classification.

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable regulation of fuel, air, water, and steam controls along with generator controls for the purpose of providing system voltage control and company revenue from megawatt production while satisfying all environmental regulations, legal requirements and Fossil Generation directives. The Supervising Operator trains and directs the activities of the power plant operators and acts as the Operating Authority's delegate in the implementation of the Protective Tagging System PPO-77. Provides direction of maintenance supervisors and crafts personnel, and outside support groups to perform work while meeting OSHA safety regulations. Also can serve as Operations Outage Coordinator.

Accountabilities:
- Monitor, interpret, and control the products of a steam-turbo generator by regulating fuel, air, water, steam, and generator loads. Requires skill in operating a DCS control system, and current knowledge of all operating orders regulatory, and legal requirements as they relate to the power industry
- Recognizing, defining or anticipating operating problems is a critical job responsibility. The next level of supervision is available for discussion and to review the work of this position on a regular basis; however the Supervising Operator may have to implement corrective actions immediately in response to an upset or emergency situation. This position has a significant role for implementing solutions
- As the Operating Authority's delegate, safely implements the Protective Tagging System PPO-77 in the plant and maintains all documentation. Acts as the agent of the Central System Supervisor (CSS) in providing protection for personnel under the CSS' control. May act as the protection leader for outside contractors and vendors
- The Supervising Operator has the primary responsibility for scheduling work, providing on the job training, and giving work direction for Power Plant Operators. This is often done under constantly changing conditions and priorities
- Composes and revises job instructional training material for the operation of plant equipment and systems. Reviews training materials with the Power Plant Operators and verifies competency. This position requires occasional leading of meetings or facilitating group discussions. Daily preparation of computer/systems documentation and reports/logs numerical/narrative, technical writing, and work unit policies and procedures is required
- Co-ordinates work with other internal and external groups. Builds consensus for the implementation of new programs or initiatives. Exchanges factual information with all levels inside and outside of the organizational unit. Implements plans to meet organizational goals. Must be knowledgeable and able to perform switching and operation of all electrical systems up to and including 354KV
- Assist in administrative duties (e.g. EMS, P3M, Time and Attendance, etc.)
- Performs additional job responsibilities as may be required Qualifications
- High school diploma or higher education or equivalent
- Five years operating experience, or four years of operating experience and a fully qualified Power Plant Operator
- Must have working knowledge of the Protection Procedures PPO 77. In the absence of a Shift Supervisor and/or Assistant Shift Supervisor, the Supervising Operator has the sole responsibility of administering the Personnel Protection Procedures in regards to all work performed on power plant equipment
-Must obtain an evaluation of 'Recommended' on the Plant Operator Selection System Test (P.O.S.S.). - Requires a working knowledge of control systems for boiler and turbine operating systems
- Requires a working knowledge or organizational policies and procedures, safety standards and regulations, environmental regulations, administrative procedures and the company-union contract for represented employees
- Requires a working knowledge of CRT/keyboard usage, data entry, applications software spreadsheets, graphics, database managers, etc., and timekeeping/pay practices
- Requires a working knowledge of all the plant and fuel supply equipment and systems, equipment performance, testing, risk management and outage management
- Must obtain and maintain a City of Detroit Second Class Stationary Engineers License and be qualified to perform First Aid/CPR within 18 months after entering the job classification and have a DTE Basic Electrical Certificate
