Job Description
Highly-skilled MBA graduates are recruited to bring critical leadership, analytical and financial skills to DTE Energy. Financial Consultants of the Advanced Degree Development Program (ADDP) commit to three to four developmental assignments and work with leaders to provide decision support, financial planning and project management support.

Types of Developmental Assignments include:
-Decision Support – Analyze overall business unit performance, provide forecasting guidance for O&amp;M and Capital expenditures and work closely with operations groups to develop long-term strategies.
-Trust Investments – Assist Trust Investments team in the oversight of trust assets and develop periodic and project-based reporting.
-Renewable Energy – Support the strategy and business development efforts of Detroit Edison’s Renewable Energy business and provide financial analysis and modeling support for various commercial activities.
-Audit Services – Evaluate the existence and effectiveness of internal controls and make recommendations for improvement to management.
-Treasury – Assist the Corporate Finance team in providing analytical and technical expertise to management related to financial market theory, financial policies and financing alternatives.
-Planning &amp; Analysis – A blend of managing the Corporation’s policies concerning the capital investment review / approval process and overall corporate strategy development.Qualifications
-MBA graduates with a minimum of five years experience exhibiting a progressive work history.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills with proven abilities to cohesively defend or justify recommendations.
-Ability to think strategically and creatively while demonstrating strong analytical skills.
-Demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Coordinates and manages complex financial accounting and analysis relating to General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Regulatory Accounting Principles (RAP) issues. The responsibility also includes researching and providing accounting guidance based on accounting authoritative literature and pronouncements. Provides technical accounting and finance expertise on a wide range of accounting and business issues.

-Provides accounting guidance on all accounting related matters. 
-Researches current and emerging accounting issues and implements related accounting policies and procedures.
-Ensures compliance with GAAP and regulatory accounting.
-Prepares accounting analysis and white papers.
-Analyzes complex business transactions and determines accounting requirements.

-Facilitates and supports identification of process improvements.Qualifications
-Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
-CPA or equivalent experience required. MBA preferred.

-Experience with application of ASC 815 to complex derivative transactions preferred.

-Working knowledge of IFRS and differences from US GAAP preferred.

Senior Strategists work with senior management at DTE Energy and its regulated electric utility, Detroit Edison. They are members of the Strategy and Planning group, which reports directly to the President and COO of Detroit Edison.

The primary role of a Senior Strategist is to act as an internal consultant, focusing on high profile projects. These projects typically last four to six months and span different business units and functional areas. Senior Strategists typically remain in their position for two to three years. Representative assignments include:

– Provide analytical and presentation support (Board of Directors level) for annual Detroit Edison long-term strategic plan
– Led the effort to streamline Detroit Edison’s Smart Grid strategy and spearhead the application process for a Department of Energy investment grant
– Developed a growth strategy for in Community Lighting department, including financial analysis of conversion to LED streetlights
– Developed the business case for a $500 million investment in Smart Grid technologies
– Provided analytical support in the evaluation of wind turbine vendors and balance of plant contractors for three wind farms in Michigan
– Created a program to assist low-income electric and gas utility customers
– Developed an economic development strategy to drive business growth in Michigan
– Supported two company witnesses in the Detroit Edison rate case, including analysis and testimony
– Conduct annual benchmarking analysis of Detroit Edison’s business unit costs and operational performance relative to other utilities throughout the U.S. and identify levers for improvement

Qualifications
- MBA or equivalent with a minimum of five years of experience exhibiting a progressive work history

About Position
Performs independent financial controls audits to ensure that controls are in place and working as intended and that business objectives are being met. Also performs independent substantive audits to ensure that financial statements are fairly stated and consistent with GAAP.

- Assists in planning, developing, conducting, and occasionally leads non-complex financial and control audits and assesses associated risks of those company systems, operations, processes, functions and activities
- Partners with clients to assess client business, and financial risks on non-complex subjects
- Accumulates pertinent data, organizes material, uses sampling techniques and software analysis tools, makes detailed analysis of existing conditions and appropriate recommendations on non-complex audits. Assists the Auditor in Charge on more complex audits or in providing consulting expertise
- Writes and presents audit reports describing scope, objectives, conclusions, findings and recommendations to both internal and external stakeholders. Identifies and quantifies adjustments to financial statements. Conducts supervised draft review meetings. Ensures workpapers fully support conclusions and conform to departmental and professional standards and meet standards of external auditors
- Performs non-complex special investigations as well as functions requiring the application of specialized auditing principles and practices with limited supervision
- Provides input to audit management in developing the Annual Audit Plan
- Protects confidential client information
- Ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
- Keeps up to date with relevant professional literature regarding technical accounting and financial reporting standards
- May occasionally perform non-complex operational audits
- Performs all duties in accordance with DTE's safety rules, operating regulations and practices, reports unsafe conditions and practices, and promotes a clean, safe workplaceQualifications

college or university, preferred. Bachelor's Degree in another discipline acceptable with additional relevant professional experience
- CPA, CA required
