Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modifications/extension of theories, precepts, and practices in the electrical engineering discipline. Participates on/leads teams of technicians and engineers in the performance of this work. These teams identify the component specifications that require verification in order to dedicate these materials for service in the nuclear plant environment, identify problems, develop alternative solutions, determine the best solution and develop plans to implement this solution. 

Accountabilities:
- Perform electrical/physical measurements: resistance, voltage, current, frequency, harmonic power, high speed transient inrush current/switching surge, rotating speed, physical dimension and torque. Record curve trace of electrical characteristics and physical conditions with digital imaging.
- Perform electrical testing of components/materials (transformers, power supplies, motors, relays, lights, sockets, terminal blocks, invertors …etc) to verify functionality and assess performance. Conduct material, resistance, frequency, torque, rotating speed, voltage and capacitance testing.
-Perform failure analysis of equipment to identify root cause of breakdown.
- Work with different engineering disciplines and groups including, but not limited to ESO personnel, Plant personnel, OEM's and AE firms.
- Work within ESO's QA program to become a level 2 certified individual for electrical equipment testing.
- Develops special test procedures and set ups for conducting tests on temperature elements, pressure gauges, pressure switches, flow switches, controllers, valves, unions, hoses,etc.
- Become proficient in the operation, use and standardization of our electrical test equipment. This will involve the calibration of the test equipment to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) certified standards.
- Maintain and calibrate ESO temperature and pressure laboratory equipment as required.Qualifications

Typical assignments may include but not limited to:
- As a member of the corporate BTFR (boiler tube failure reduction) team, plan scope of work during scheduled outages, support capital projects, and identify need for boiler component replacement.
- Meet regularly with established plant BTFR teams to review failures, root causes, establish annual goals, review and update forced outage inspection plans and corrective action plans.
- Use of a web based database (AWARE) to document tube failures and attach relevant information including metallurgical, welding reports, pictures, thickness readings, etc.
- Weekly update of a BTFR 4-block for each of the plants which include the percent ROF due to tube leaks, failure mechanisms, their location for the last 52 weeks and Year to Date.
- Coordinate an annual seminar for plant personnel on failure mechanisms, their root causes, best repair and operating practices and how actions by engineers, operation and maintenance personnel can affect overall reliability.
- Review soot blowing processes and establish criteria as it relates to Boiler tube erosion.
- Specify treatment of Boiler tube panels such as coating Boiler tube panels with weld overlays to increase their resistance to fireside corrosion. 
- Develop and maintain inspection plans for each of the boilers. Each plan includes drawings, soot blower ID number and location, tube material information, what to inspect for in each of the floors/areas and pictures of typical failure mechanisms/ failed tubes.
- Create and maintain boiler maps showing failure mechanisms and detailing wastage rates, etc
- Coordinate and participate with the in-house inspections of boilers during scheduled outages.
- Assist with boiler inspections during forced outages, determination of root cause of failure(s), and development of short-term and long-term repair plans.
- Document inspections using a standardized inspection report throughout the fleet, which includes item priority, type of damage, recommended repairs, complete tube material information and location in the boiler, pictures and additional notes. Engineers and boilermakers will review the report and agree on item prioritization and most appropriate repair methods.Qualifications

NDE III typical duties include (but not limited to):
- Develops and qualifies / certifies NDE procedures as required by ASME Section V and the referencing Code section, and demonstrates these procedures to the satisfaction of the State Authorized Inspector.
- Reviews reports of NDE services performed at Fossil Generation facilities (either by DTE NDE personnel or contractors) for accuracy as required.
- Provides technical direction, interpretation, organization, execution and coordination in problems relating to the optimization, operation, engineering, and maintenance of company assets.
- Plans and develops NDE and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) solutions to unique or controversial problems which impact major company programs and goals.

- Develops and performs specialized NDE examinations when required.
- Maintains the Fossil Generation NDE Program, conducts training and certification activities for site examination personnel and maintains the Engineering Support Organization (ESO) Non-Destructive Examination Manual, test procedures, and other documents as needed to support the organization’s NDE program.
- Maintains NDE Procedure and Personnel qualification program.
- Performs engineering investigations, research, or other engineering duties concerned with NDE and PdM as applicable to power plant operation and maintenance.

Key Accountabilities
Students will work with engineers and other office personnel to: Provide support in updating and managing data input for engineering databases; Document and develop a new database to track performances or provide information for evaluation or analysis; Perform equipment analysis, troubleshooting and problem solving; Collect, analyze and input trend data; Prepare reports on equipment; Perform engineering calculations in the areas of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid flow; Communicate with vendors/suppliers and other engineers at a variety of levels to discuss/resolve technical issues, equipment availability, costs etc. Understand and interpret various graphs; Assist with process improvements, writing standard work instructions, prepare monthly reports for management, track performance of projects, update and create process flow charts; Improve data integrity of database and spreadsheet formation.

- Perform testing on various equipment (i.e. coal mills, air heater, boiler efficiency, turbine efficiency, fan performance)

Qualifications
Must be a Graduate or Undergraduate student majoring in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Industrial), with a minimum 2.7 grade point average.

The DTE Energy Co-op Program requires students to be able to complete two co-op rotations, alternating between work and school prior to graduation. Students must have completed their program pre-requisites and are taking courses specific to their major. Students should be knowledgable in fluid mechanics, process economics, thermodynamics, heat transfer and the ability to read flow charts and technical drawings statistics. Students are expected to have above average skills working with Word, Excel, and Power Point. Access, GIS Mapping Systems, Visio, Six Sigma and Lean Operating Principles experience a plus. Functions as a fully competent technician with extensive knowledge and skills in diverse functional areas of responsibility (e.g., engineering, science, computers, power plants, peakers).Provide technical support in the areas of electrical component testing for the commercial grade dedication of the materials for installation in our Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant and failure analysis of components to identify root cause of malfunctions.Participate on teams of technicians and engineers in the performance of this work. These teams identify the component specifications that require verification in order to dedicate these materials for service in the nuclear plant environment, identify problems, develop alternative solutions, determine the best solution and develop plans to implement this solution.

Key Accountabilities

- Perform electrical/physical measurements: resistance, voltage, current, frequency, harmonic power, high speed transient inrush current/switching surge, rotating speed, physical dimension and torque.  Record curve trace of electrical characteristics and physical conditions with digital imaging.
- Perform electrical testing of components/materials (transformers, power supplies, motors, relays, lights, sockets, terminal blocks, invertors, capacitors, resistors, fuses, cables, electrical tape…etc) to verify functionality and assess performance. Conduct material, resistance, frequency, torque, rotating speed, voltage and capacitance testing.
- Work with different engineering disciplines and groups including, but not limited to Plant personnel, OEM's and AE firms.
- Work within ESO's QA program to become a level 2 certified individual for electrical equipment testing.
- Become proficient in the operation, use and standardization of our electrical test equipment. This will involve the calibration of the test equipment to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) certified standards.
- Maintain and calibrate ESO laboratory equipment as required.

Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (electrical discipline) or completion of two years of a four year Engineering or Engineering Technology (electrical discipline) degree and 7 years of job related experience
- Preferred: experience working with nuclear commercial dedication testing or metrology.
-Demonstrates ability to recommend and implement advanced solutions involving engineering or science, design, operation, and maintenance of diverse company assets.
- Computer Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, and vendors software applications as required.
- Able to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company.
- Candidate should be familiar with the operation and use of general laboratory instrumentation, such as power supplies, signal generators, frequency counters, digital multi-meters, digital volt meters, oscilloscopes, meggers, … etc.

Typical assignments may include but not limited to:
- There is a corporate BTFR (boiler tube failure reduction) team and defined BTFR teams in each of the plants. Plant BTFR teams are formed by engineers, technicians, operations, maintenance (welding) and chemistry engineer and will meet on regular basis. Corporate BTFR team will plan scope of work during scheduled outages, support capital projects, identify need for boiler component replacement.
- Use of a web based database (AWARE) to document tube failures and attach relevant information including metallurgical, welding reports, pictures, thickness readings, etc.
- Weekly update of a BTFR 4-block for each of the plants which include the percent ROF due to tube leaks, failure mechanisms, their location for the last 52 weeks and Year to Date.
- The company has a corporate guideline (PPO 255) that establishes the basis for the BTFR program at the corporate level. 
- Coordinate annual seminar on failure mechanisms, their root causes, best repair and operating practices and how actions by engineers, operation and maintenance personnel can affect overall reliability.
- Each plant BTFR team sets goals for the year (with defined target dates). 
- Develop guidelines for boiler operation with known tube leaks based on EPRI recommendations. 
- Review soot blowing processes and establish criteria as it relates to Boiler tube erosion.
- Specify treatment of Boiler tube panels such as coating Boiler tube panels with weld overlays to increase their resistance to fireside corrosion. 
- The central and plant BTFR team developed inspection booklets for each of the boilers. Each booklet includes drawings, soot blower ID number and location, tube material information, what to inspect for in each of the floors/areas and pictures of typical failure mechanisms/ failed tubes.
- Create and maintain Boiler maps show Failure mechanisms and detailing Wastage rates, etc
- Boiler inspections are performed in-house:
* Corporate BTFR team will participate in the inspection of boilers during scheduled outages.
* Use standardized inspection reports throughout the fleet, in Excel format, which include item priority, type of damage, recommended repairs, complete tube material information and location in the boiler, pictures and additional notes. Engineers and boilermakers will review the report and agree on item prioritization and most appropriate repair methods.
