Job Summary
This position is a technical resource on matters relating to safety and industrial hygiene to the business units. Responsible for ensuring company safety programs and policies are being effectively implemented and are in compliance with federal, state and local safety codes and regulations.
Key Accountabilities
-Identifies and resolve safety issues, communicating substandardconditions through proper channels
-Utilizes computer systems and spreadsheets to analyze and monitor andtrack safety systems
-Uses fact base analysis to identify root causes of safety andindustrial hygiene problems or incidents
-Develops accident prevention programs, incentive programs and business unit safety objectives
-Effectively interprets policies and procedures and provide appropriate guidance to organization
-Evaluates business unit production, maintenance and customer service operations, make recommendations and provide guidance and direction
-Conducts technical audits of business unit compliance programs and safety initiatives
-Coordinates and leads a team on a safety strategies, managing a diverse group
-Engages suppliers and contractor services in supporting company safety initiatives and generating cost avoidance/savings strategies
-Crosses functional lines and business organizational units to share concepts, remove barriers and develop uniform implementation strategies
-Strategically plans, organizes and prioritizes issues, meetings and events impacting the business unit
-Leads and instructs line management on the principles of hazard identification and controlQualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, SafetyManagement, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences or relatedfields
-Master’s degree in similar disciplines or Toxicology preferred
-At least five years of safety and health experience in the utilityindustry or heavy manufacturing preferred
-Certification as Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Safety Professional (CSP), Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
-Experience in working in a unionized environment, working with publicinterests groups, regulatory bodies and political affiliates
-Experience in working with multiple locations having diverse processes, products and business systems
-Demonstrated broad understanding of safety and health field (e.g. emerging technologies, industry standards system designs and integration of safety processes)
-Demonstrated experience in interfacing and reporting to upper
-Experience in reviewing process designs and engineering prints and system safety reviews of existing installations and new process and equipment installations
-Detailed knowledge of Federal, State & Local safety, health & medical standards
-Detailed knowledge of chemical and physical hazards and the toxicological implications on human health
-Detailed knowledge on human factors engineering
-Detailed knowledge of safety equipment, safety devices, control technologies
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Ability to work various schedules and be on 24/7 call out
