Job DescriptionJob Summary
This position is a technical resource on matters relating to safety and industrial hygiene to the business units. Responsible for monitoring company safety programs, policies and compliance with federal, state and local safety codes and regulations.
Key Accountabilities
-Identifies and resolves basic safety issues
-Utilizes computer systems and spreadsheets to analyze and monitor and track safety systems
-Identifies substandard conditions and communicate findings
-Uses fact base analysis to identify root causes of safety and industrial hygiene problems or incidents
-Develops recommendations and monitors implementations
-Analyzes data and provides comprehensive reports
-Evaluates business unit processes and makes recommendations
-Functions as part of a team on a business strategy
-Interacts effectively with line management, employees, union personnel, professional staff and regulatory inspectors and build relationships.
-Engages suppliers and contractor services in supporting company safety initiatives and generating cost avoidance/savings strategies.
-Communicates across functional lines and business units to share concepts and implementation strategies.
-Plans, organizes and prioritizes issues impacting the business unit.Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences or related fields.
-Minimum of 5 years of safety and health experience in the utility industry or heavy manufacturing
-Experiences or training in the analysis of regulatory and legislative standards and policies
-Basic knowledge of Federal, State & Local safety, health & medical standards
-Basic knowledge of engineering concepts to control safety & health hazards
-Basic knowledge of safety management systems and their interaction with corporate business systems
-Basic knowledge of chemical and physical hazards and the toxicological implications on human health
-Basic knowledge on human factors engineering and their application to safety processes
-Basic knowledge of organizational learning and the ability to deliver training programs to address organizational needs
-Basic knowledge of safety equipment, safety devices, control technologies
-Ability to modify written procedures and programs to meet business unit needs
-Ability to maintain and insure appropriate records are compiled in accord with company policies
-Ability to be creative and innovative
-Must adapt to changing priorities and to handle a multitude of tasks
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-Works various schedules and be on 24 hour/7 day call out
