Job Summary
Responsible for organizing, planning and supervising skilled trades and instrument and control (I&C) technicians in day-to-day corrective and preventative maintenance and forced and periodic unit out-ages at power generating stations. Responsible for contract administration of external labor and materials. Span of control: approximately 5 jobs and 15 FTEs (direct, second-level, etc.)
Key Accountabilities
- Performs or ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory functions for a group of (union) represented and non- represented personnel: planning, organizing, directing the performance of ongoing activities and special assignments, staffing (employee selection, training/coaching & performance management), time entry, accident & injury reports) coordinating, reporting & budgeting. Motivates through leading by example, coaching/mentoring and providing ongoing constructive feedback to subordinate staff; competent in systematically eliciting the best efforts & results from subordinate staff.
- Leads and coordinates multiple tasks or projects across skilled trades, including vendors and contractors engaged in the construction, maintenance, repair and operation of power generating station equipment.
- Supervises all aspects of assigned work; ensures the adherence to appropriate quality and timeliness provisions.
- Enforces safe work practices; trains employees in safety and environmental standards.
- Ensure the appropriate application of collective bargaining agreement (CBA) provisions; may represent the Company in grievances and arbitration proceedings; fills in for the General Foreman in his absence.
- Chairs meetings with internal organizations and external suppliers, vendors and contractors to develop short-and long-term plans and meet organizational goals; Interfaces with internal and external engineering groups on the implementation of projects.
- Assumes responsibility as key tag protection leader and/or job leader as outlined in applicable Power Plant Order(s); may be required to act as a plant radiation-responsible individual.
- Supervises the performance of welding work required in the maintenance, repair, and construction of all types of power plant equipment and pressure vessels, including the welding of metals with electric arc, beliarc, inert gas and acetylene; assembling piping, valves or fittings by welding; developing layouts and fabricating steel plate and structural shapes for repairs to buildings and equipment.
- May lead continuous improvement (CI) commitment and systematic CI efforts for a given group(s).
Qualifications
MINIMAL: High school graduate or equivalent, & the knowledge/capabilities typically acquired through 7- plus years of experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and/or instrumentation equipment typical to a power generating station; knowledge of computer-based work management and scheduling processes. Incumbents may be required to work varying shifts and overtime.
PREFERRED: Certificate (i.e. the completion of a core group of program-related courses designated by a duly accredited program) in a job-relevant skilled trade or completion of a skilled-trade apprenticeship; experience inclusive of Non- Distributed Energy (NDE), welding (ASME- & ANSI-code certification preferred), 3-plus years in a senior, lead-worker, project-lead or supervisory capacity; passage of the Company's Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) & Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) programs prior or subsequent to selection for the job.
- Proficient verbal, written and presentation skills; communicates clearly, with credibility and confidence. Ability to work in a team and/or matrixed structure, supporting multiple clients.
- Ability to conduct effective & efficient meetings; manages meetings with optimal results.
