Director of Engineering and Project Management
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
General Summary
This management engineering position is responsible for evaluating and providing technical solutions to both the operations and development groups while overseeing a team of Project Managers/Engineering Managers. A person at this level is considered an expert or authority in energy related equipment and systems. The employee exercises independent discretion and judgment within established policies, procedures and practices.Performance results are reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to these policies, procedures and practices.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
* Manages in-house engineering and project management staff by establishing priorities and goals for the department and individual staff; conducts quarterly progress reviews with staff and documents staff performance annually
* Manages and monitors the project management, design and installation work of outside engineering/construction firms and represents DTEBEs interest from a design, installation and operability perspective
* Provides support to project managers regarding interpretation, evaluation and resolution of technical design and project related issues
* Provides oversight forconceptual design, preliminary equipment sizing, projects costs, manages budgets and maintains relationships with equipment vendors, engineering firms, EPC contractors, and DTEBEs customers
* Conducts technical and contract negotiations relative to project performance guarantees, schedules, scope and pricing with outside engineering firms, customers, and equipment suppliers as needed
* Monitors progress of outside engineering/construction firms; establishes reporting protocol and resolves any outstanding issues
* Approves all construction budgets, staffing plans, and schedules in conjunction with engineering and project management personnel
* Provides lead role in providing technical support and due diligence associated with the greenfield project development and acquisition of new company growth opportunities
* Supports execution of company business plan and participates as an integral component of senior leadership team
* Maintains engineering department records in accordance with Company records retention policies and regulatory requirements
* Performs all other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
A Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, electrical (or similar) engineering plus ten (10) years experience including supervisoryis required.Experience in construction and operations project management preferably with an energy company or engineering & construction firm to provide for the following:
Applicable work experience dealing with power generation, gas compression and gas pipelines with landfill gas experience viewed as a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of MS applications, including Word, Excel and Project, in a Window environment
An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
Professional engineers license is preferred.
A well-organized and self-directed individual.
